GloZell was on her way to Florida this morning, starting at 6am when she arrived at the Burbank Airport. She got on the plane and made it to her first destination, Phoenix. She changed planes for her next destination - Las Vegas. Yes, she had TWO plane changes in order to get to Florida - it was a cheap ticket so she didn't mind a little inconvenience all she needed was to get to Florida.
The problem started this morning when a freak snow storm hit Las Vegas. GloZell's US Airways plane sat on the tarmac for an hour and then they finally announced that they wouldn't be flying to Vegas. Uh oh. GloZell gets to a ticket counter to try and get on different flights going to Florida.
US Airways wasn't very helpful with her situation. They were able to book her on a flight to Orlando - on Friday!!! That's right, she has to wait for two days in Phoenix for a flight to Orlando. US Airways offered to put her on a standby flight tomorrow to Tampa, but that's a two hour drive from Orlando and GloZell doesn't think that her sister will pick her up that far away.
US Airways then offered to fly GloZell back to Burbank, but her ticket to Florida will be null and void - she considered this option for a quick minute, but she decided to wait it out in Phoenix. US Airways will not put her up in a hotel and they aren't even offering her food vouchers. Airport food is expensive y'all! That's not cool.
I'm really upset by the situation that US Airways has put GloZell in. I really feel that at the very least they should of sent her back to Burbank and booked her on different flights - why make the girl live in an airport for two days? Or I think they could have booked her on a different airline, but they refused to do that too.
I get texted updates from her from time to time - the last one said that she was playing with some German kids and making friends. That's just like GloZell to make the best out of such a horrible situation.
Anybody going to be in Phoenix in the next two days? Go visit GloZell at the airport!
12/18 9:45am Edited to add:
I just texted GloZell and I haven't heard back from her, maybe she's lost battery power, maybe she's on a plane, either way I hope to find out soon. I did hear from a friend of mine that he's also stuck in Phoenix! How crazy is that! He posted this photo just this morning on his Facebook page -
Looks like my two stranded friends have lots of company!
I'll post more updates as I get them.

FMM and GG,
So sorry about the problem. I see people stranded in the airports in Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, etc., but not Phoenix. They've cut all frills and most service. Hopefully someone from Jay's line will offer help. Thursday cancellations are possible so check often/make friends with them. GG, you know a guy from Jet Blue. Maybe he has connections.
Stay safe and I'll check back soon. God's watching over you!
Thanks, FMM...

Thanks for keeping us posted FMM. That really sucks what's happening to Glozie! What a way to end the year. That really really sucks!!! She's got such a great personality, and can make the best of any situation! I'm sure she'll make friends with other travelers and someone will buy her something to eat at least! The food is expensive and kinda crappy! Poor kid! I hope she took snacks!
Please keep us posted!

FMM....
I have a solution for Glozell! If she gets the flight out to Tampa she can get to Orlando by taking the GreyHound Bus!!!! It's very cheap! Here's their Phone Number to get info! Fare and schedule information
1-800-231-2222. All she has to do is get to the Greyhound station once she's in Tampa, jump on a scheduled bus and off she goes to Orlando! Then her sister can pick her up at the Greyhound Station in Orlando!

Thanks for all the comments y'all! I'll read them to her whenever she calls today.
Hey FMM and GloZell,
I can understand why things are so messy in Vegas. They had snow. And I don't think that airport is equipped to deal with it in a fast manner. Either way I know it's very frustrating when you have to deal with it.
To FMM - I think it's great that you take over the blogging duties while she's away. I love the fact that you do not do four sentences blogs. You have a true blogging spirit. Hopefully I will be able to meet you when I come by California sometime.
To GloZell - I know you are dealing with a lot on your plate right now. I hope you have a relaxing, calm vacation.
To both of you - Have a Great Christmas.
-Later,
Dan
Thanks Mary for keeping us posted!!!
Airports SUCK!!!! It doesn't matter what airline it is they ALL suck big doo doo.
Glo probably rather be stuck in the airport than in Florida..... and I'm not in the least bit surprised that she is making friends!!!!! SO AWESOME!!!!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO BOTH OF YOU!!!! XOXOXO
GG and FMM,
Yes, hopefully you're on a flight. I will keep looking for further information and do pray you get home soon. Even De is going to look great at the end of this journey.
Jim and I both had medical appointments in Austin today. Jim had a monthly man made protein shot at his nephrologist's so his hemoglobin is higher...less enemic. I had a yearly infusion of ReClast because calcium, D3,magnesium, and other meds. aren't absorbed well and I've had to go to alternative methods to help my bones.
Looks like we'll delay our departure by car for Lincoln due to an ice storm along our route and possibility of more. We don't want to be stranded in Oklahoma or Kansas or in a ditch. We'll have Christmas with our two daughters families and their inlaws and a son-in-law's sister Sunday PM here.
We've been watching C-SPAN all week with visits through the White House and interviews with President Bush, Laura Bush, past Presidents and present/past staff. I've really enjoyed them and admire their courage and hard work. Makes me proud I'm an American. January will focus on the Obama's inauguration and the changes he promises all of us. Our son-in-law will be one of 40 Austin PD officers in DC as security. I pray for him, his family, and the people who will run this country. I pray for their safety and for their success.

And the airlines continue to wonder why they're failing?!? Here's a link to my airline experience just up the road in Ontario a day or two later: http://www.blog.aimlessmovie.com/2009/01/my-final-day-on-road-part-1.html.
