The Black Panthers were initially formed to protect local communities from police brutality and racism. The group also ran medical clinics and provided free food to school children. Within a couple of years the Black Panthers in Oakland were feeding over 10,000 children every day before they went to school.

I've viewed the videos posted yesterday and today. Those posted yesterday were more focused on the present/future where today's two (The Black Panthers) talk about past wrongs done and the fear that history will be repeated. Many whites were involved in the festivities. Change takes generations and involves education and breaking the cycles.
I enjoy mixing with different races/cultures. We lived on the border at Jim's hometown (Brownsville by Matamoros, Mexico) MANY years. I studied Spanish in Guadalajara and lived with a family. Learning a new language as an adult is much harder. The waitress with Down Syndromes here works two days and busts tables, gives menus and silverware, and gets beverages while her sister delivers tacos/sodas in their truck M-F. The other three days she rides all day in the truck. I enjoy practicing my Spanish which has gotten rusty. Right now I am primarily helping this family, but help all of their staff.
The people you interviewed seemed intelligent and hard-working. I understand the excitement and also worry they have for Obama's campaign. May God keep him/his family SAFE. Both my sons-in-laws are Austin police officers and met/shock hands with Obama when they worked security for him at the Capitol at his rally. It was a very large/peaceful rally.
I am not familar with LA...only what's covered in the news.
Stay safe, but don't let fear monopolize your actions. You know how to avoid the danger.
We're settling in to watch an old Cary Grant movie, "His Girl Friday".

If there are blacks who could care less and angry about Obama I am sure there are other races who really could care less about him ... but ... I am for Obama...
It was the Panthers that really did it for me... they need to see more positive black roll models and see Obama work with other races... ( man Obama better not mess up... )
When I say angry... did you see the brother to the right of the young sister I was talking to... you look at him wrong and he is ready to jump... don't think they wern't all packing...

Michael here - what's going on, are you getting all serious on us? Actually, I've really like the last couple of days about the rally. And you got a very straight , yet informative interview with counsel man Parks.
You did some well rounded interviews on this, all together.
Glad you see that voting is actually important. Too bad you can't vote in Florida, that's where Obama really needs your support.
I know many people are afraid of a fairly untried candidate, but I would rather have a newer, slightly less seasoned one, than one that I know is going to continue most of what Bush put into place - and has screwed this country up so badly.
People have to remember that John F. Kennedy was a neophyte as well and did a great job for the country before he died. Plus Obama will tear down some walls politically, and considering what we're going through, any change he would make could only be positive.
Again really good work here (And not just because you're supporting Obama now). These last couple days have been really positive.
